We know how important it is for friends and family members to stay in touch with their loved ones in prison. Secure video calls are one of the ways that you can do this.
Since XXX we have used the secure social video call provider Purple Visits. This contract is now ending. Over the coming months, prisons will switch to a new system provided by Phonehub, a trusted supplier that already provides the Prison Voicemail service.
Over the coming months, prisons will switch to offering video calls through an app called Prison Video. This means that you will need to use the Prison Video app on your phone or tablet device to have a video call with someone in prison.
The Prison Video app is available to download from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store (or equivalent app stores outside the UK).
The new system has been carefully tested to make sure it works in a similar way to Purple Visits. If you have booked a video call with Purple Visits which hasn’t happened yet, you will still be able to have it.
You can find information on when individual prisons will switch to the new system at https://www.gov.uk/government/collections/prisons-in-england-and-wales
